Ok… So I decided to entirely re-write my novels. Editing is too much work, and five years after I started them, I have such a better vision of what I actually want. It sucks for the over 600 pages written so far but I could never purge the original manuscript from all the mistakes and plot points I don’t want anymore.
I didn’t think about it. Of course, I have several back ups of everything and will certainly copy-paste my favourite paragraphs.
But my priority was to be able to start from a clean page. Over 5 years, I got better at writing and had new ideas. Maybe not better ideas, but ones I liked more. And it was hard as hell to make those changes in an existing text and think about every detail that needed to be changed. Now I started all over, it will be less messy and more coherent.
Also: I had a great boost of motivation to write as soon as I started from scratch. It took me some time to decide to apply this advice (I don’t know where I read it, I’ve forgot to save it). I’ve been thinking about it for a couple of months. And it was a good decision. Here I am, free again to create a better, more coherent and well-planned story :D
